This week challenges us to show community. I thought I would show the effects of what a community can do. Specifically the tourist community at Trevi Fountain. On occasion the fountain is drained and workers come in to clean out all the coinage that is thrown in.
It is estimated that about 3,000 Euros a day in coins are tossed into the fountain. The legend is that if one tosses in a coin then the person is assured of returning to Rome. Yes, Poncho and I tossed in coins.
Now at first glance it might appear that they ladies in the picture are pilfering the bags of coins. In actuality, they are sealing and tagging the bags to assure there is no pilfering before the coins are sent to be counted.
After the cleaning, the fountain is filled again and the tourists, including myself, return.
